Victoria Falls, Okavango Delta Safari

Day One & Two: Welcome to Zimbabwe - Victoria Falls

Hello! Welcome to Zimbabwe! We will be there to give you a warm welcome when you land at Victoria Falls Airport. Our guide will take you to the Lodge to check in, then later do the Victoria Falls tour. Then a sunset cruise in the Falls.

The Mosi-oa-Tunya/Victoria Falls is the largest curtain of falling water in the world; it is 1708 m wide and with up to 500 million litres per minute descending at 61 m (Devil’s Cataract), 83 m (Main Falls), 99 m (Rainbow Falls), 98 m (Eastern Cataract). Eight spectacular gorges of igneous origin (i.e. comprising basalts) and several islands in the core zone serve as breeding sites for four endangered and migratory bird species, such as the Taita Falcon and Black Eagle. The riverine ‘rainforest’ within the waterfall splash zone is a fragile ecosystem of discontinuous forest on sandy alluvium, dependent upon maintenance of abundant water and high humidity resulting from the spray plume of about 500 m (at maximum height) that can be seen from a distance of 50 km and 30 km from Bulawayo and Lusaka roads respectively. A direct frontage viewing of the falls is possible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe.

You stay 2 nights. Activities: Vic falls day trip, Sunset cruise.

Day Three & Four: Serviced Camping at Chobe River Front Within the Chobe National Park

You are woken up early in the morning, day 3. After breakfast we head out for Game viewing in the Savuti area. A little later in the morning, we leisurely head out towards the Chobe River front area, with a picnic stop along the way. With time allowing, we will do an introductory game viewing along the Chobe River. This day is long, with the expected time of arrival in camp around 1700hrs.

The Chobe River essentially, is the soul of all of the life found in this northern end of Botswana. In the dry season, there is not another one place on earth that has better concentrations of Elephants, Buffalo, Sable, Hippopotamus and many more in one small area. It is truly a world wonder. It is then fitting to finish one’s safari here. The predator life is equally drawn to the river front as it follows the prey species to the water side. Both Lion and Leopard are frequently seen here.

Your 2 nights stay, allowing your time for a river Cruise on the Chobe. Activities: Morning Game drives, Boat Cruise, Afternoon Game drives

Day Five: Serviced Camping within the Makgadikgadi National Park

You are woken up early in the morning on day 5. After breakfast, we head out for game viewing. We later leisurely head out to the next point within the Park at the Makgadikgadi Pans, with a picnic lunch along the way. Time allowing we may do another introductory game viewing in and around the Pans before we get into camp.

We do get up close and personal with the coolest residents of the desert, the Kalahari meerkats.

The national park forms a unity with the Nxai Pan National Park only separated by the Maun – Nata tar road from each other.  In the south west its border crosses the Ntwetwe Pan, in the west the Boteti River forms the border. The Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and the Nxai Pan National Park are situated on the western border of the large Makgadikgadi salt pans, south east of the Okavango Delta.  The Makgadikgadi Pans are one of the biggest salt pans worldwide. They are formed by two large and thousands of small pans with an area of more than 8400 km². The complete area of pan systems covers an area of more than 16000 km².

The formation of the salt pans started with the evaporation of a huge inland lake in central Botswana, which covered an area of about 60000 km². As a result of plate tectonics, the feeding rivers were cut off.  As Makgadikgadi forms the lowest point, salt concentrated here and formed layers up to five metre deep.

You stay 1 night in Makgadikgadi Pans. Activities: Game drives, nature walks, visit meerkats.

Day Six & Seven: Serviced Camping in the Xakanaxa / 3rd Bridge Area of Moremi Game Reserve / Okavango Delta

The magic of a mobile camp becomes apparent as the sun sets and you enjoy drinks around the fire before a starlit dinner and a great night’s rest after falling asleep to the sounds of the African bush. Spending our first two nights camping in the Xakanaxa / Third Bridge area, we explore the surrounding wilderness on game drives during the day. The Moremi Game Reserve protects around a third of the entire Okavango Delta ecosystem –some 5 000km2(1 930 square miles).

The landscape of Moremi is friendly, consisting mainly of Mopane Trees and grey white tracks that wind their way through the landscape. In parts the Mopane trees attain gigantic proportions, forming a magnificent cathedral of forest that dwarfs everything in its wake. There are seasonal pans, salt pans and rivers that attract a multitude of wildlife and birds. You get a taste of the Okavango Delta here.

You stay 2 nights: Activities: Morning Game drives, Afternoon Game drives, mokoro excursion.
